Ford’s Hermann Salenbauch stated after revealing the
upgraded Shelby GT 350 that Carroll Shelby is “smiling”! The upgraded Shelby GT 350 has all the amenities their loyal
customers expect. This is a first impression and first drive of the GT 350.
2019 Mustang Shelby GT350 performance enhancements include
improved aerodynamics that reduce drag with the new spoiler and adds downforce
with new available Gurney flap installed, new custom Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2
tires, plus chassis and antilock brake tuning for dramatically greater grip.
At the MI performance center in Pontiac Michigan media drove
the new track-proven 5.2 liter 526 horse power V8 with 429 foot pounds of
torque. The six speed manual by Tremac was smooth, crisp and responsive.
I have driven Shelby GT 350’s and GT 500’s since first
introduced to the pubic. My brother owned nothing but Shelby’s in Miami
and the first ones were the reason
Carroll Shelby and Ford got together and have never looked back.
The magna ride is a real plus and allows the driver to drive
into even hairpin turns with ease.
The new Shelby 350’s will have exclusive Michelin rubber further
allowing for that sticky feeling on the highways and byways they will travel.
Improvements to the Shelby’s Chassis make the car extremely
comfortable to drive.
With all the power and the manual six-speed transmission it
was so easy to get the Shelby GT 350
above the 100 mark. The new
model can pull the GT Shelby back to slower speeds simply by using the
six-piston front and four-piston rear caliper Brembo brakes.
Ford stated in press release that added control and improved
driver feedback, Shelby GT350’s electric power-assist steering and three-mode
electronic stability control settings feature enhancements taken from Ford
Performance’s hundreds of hours of competitive track testing.

Available on
the Shelby GT 350 is a high-performance, custom-tuned 12-speaker B&O Play
audio system by Harman controlled by the standard 8-inch Sync 3 touch
screen that features SiriusXM and FordPass Connect. Dual-zone electronic
automatic temperature control, along with a universal garage door opener.
New colorsfor the 2019 Mustang Shelby
GT350 include Velocity Blue and for the first time, Ford Performance Blue.
Optional factory-painted over-the-top racing stripes are available in
high-gloss Shadow Black, Oxford White or Kona Blue. Mirror-mounted Shelby Cobra
Projection Lamps come standard in the available Technology Package.
The 2019 Mustang Shelby
GT350 will be available starting in early 2019 and will be built at Flat Rock
Assembly Plant in Flat Rock, Michigan. Enrollment in an exclusive,
complimentary Track Attack driving program from Ford Performance is included
with each vehicle.
We await a production Shelby GT 350 to complete our evaluation.
