Father’s
day in Grosse Pointe means one thing …Eyes on Design Concours Auto Show has
arrived for the day. Started over
thirty years ago by Detroit Institute of Ophthlmology it has become one of
North Americas best Concours shows. .
Unlike
other shows the one at the remarkable Edsel and Eleanor Ford Estate displays
all vintage vehicles. Nearly 300 vehicles from pre-war classics, sports cars
and exotic foreign makes to muscle cars, hot rods, customs and motorcycles. This
year Japanese Motorcycles, Wooden Boats, Military, Concepts, Drag &
Muscular, 100th Anniversary Chevrolet Trucks and more. In addition,
the show is completely focused on the design. It does not focus on vehicle
restoration, provenance, rarity or vehicle dollar value. Instead, automotive
designers choose the theme, play a role in the selection of vehicle categories,
plan each of the sub-events and approve poster art, graphic design and other
aspects of the show’s format.
Some
of my photos show off a sample of vehicles displayed at the annual event.
Automotive
designers from original equipment manufacturers from around the world conduct
vehicle judging. The exterior of each vehicle is judged using professional
design criteria, including emotional appeal, execution, artistic excellence,
and design character and continuity. In addition, the interior of each vehicle
is evaluated according to a number of criteria, including appearance,
functionality, use of color and materials, and compatibility with the vehicle’s
exterior.
In
conjunction with the show the Ken Lingenfelter’s 150 vehicle collection may be previewed at hi collection Saturday,
June 16th at 7819 Lachlan, Brighton, Michigan. The $15 fee will be donated to
DIO.
We will put on our website photos of the event by the 28th of June.
