SURVIVAL KIT BRUCE HUBBARD AND AUTO ADVISOR GROUP USE
IF I HAD DRIVEN AWD OR FWD MDX IT WOULD NOT MATTER WHEN 2 TO 3 FEET OF ICE SNOW ARE ON ROAD CARRIAGE OF VEHICLE GETS STUCK. ONLY WAY I REMOVED ACURA, VOLVO, RANGE ROVER WAS TO USE COME ALONGS AND CHAINS ROPES.
I USE LARGE PLASTIC CONTAINERS TO HOLD THE FOLLOWING WHEN ON ADVENTURES IN THE BACK COUNTRY:
1. FLARES
2. BATTERIES FOR FLASHLIGHTS IN CASE. BULBS FOR FLASHLIGHTS.
OR SOLAR POWERED LED FLASHLIGHTS.BATTERIES FOR HEARING AIDS.
3. WATER IN SMALL OR LARGE BOTTLES. THREE GALLONS MINIMUM. PLASTIC BEST FOR MAY NOT EXPLODE IN FREEZING WEATHER.
4. WIRE MESH OR PLASTIC MESH TO PUT UNDER TIRES.
5. CRANK RADIO
6. SOLAR CHARGER.
7. FLAT TIRE INFLATOR FLUID (CRAP BUT IN EMERGENCY WILL USE).
8. TOOL KITS.
9. SPRAY OILS AND BUSTER FLUIDS FOR TIRES.
10. BLANKET OF SOLAR AND METAL TO HOLD HEAT IN $10 EACH. SUPERB! HOLD HEAT IN IS YOU ARE STRANDED, FABULOUS!
11. BLANKETS BESIDE SOLAR ONE. WORK WELL ON TOP OF SOLAR BLANKETS.
12. TOWELS IN ABUNDANCE. CLOTH AND PAPER.
13. SMALL SHOVELS (2). COLLAPSABLE SHOVELS.
14. 12 PACK OF NUTRA BARS.
15. KITTY LITTER, WOOD CHIPS IN A BAG.
16. RAIN X FOR SNOW ON WINDOWS.
17. PORTABLE BATTERY INFLATOR.
18. SALT OR SIMILAR ALTERNATIVE. OR AS HAVE ABOVE KITTY LITTER.
19. TWO (2) COME -A-LONG AND ROPE, CHAIN. I RECOMMEND 200 FEET OF ROPE (FOR STRANDED IN AREA WHERE NO TREES). ALSO FOUR(4) FOUR FOOT 3/4INCH REBAR AS STAKES.
20. WATER PURIFIER. IF STRANDED BY STREAM CAN CONVERT WATER INTO DRINKING WATER AFTER PURIFICATION.
21. HATS,SWEATERS, SOCHS, OR OTHER HEAVY CLOTHES. SOME WITH BATTERY POWERED HEATERS IF CAN AFFORD EXPENSE.
22. GLOVE AND SHOE HEATERS. BOX OF 12 OR MORE.
23. WOODEN MATCH BOX. GREAT FOR WILL WORK OR ALSO ADD PROPANE STRIKERS BUT I HAVE HAD THEM FAIL SO MATCHES MAKE A LOT OF SENSE FOR BACK UP. USE OTTER CASE OR PLASTIC CASE TO KEEP DRY. EVEN CONSIDER FIRE STARTERS IF YOU ARE REALLY STRANDED TO LIGHT FIRE. I HAVE NEVER YET HAD TO USE MY FIRE STARTERS THANKS TO THE MANY SAFETY ALTERNATIVES I USE.
WOULD ALSO BRING TWO COMPOSITE WOOD LOGS FOR A FIRE IF NEEDED TO BUILD ONE. WOOD OR COAL LOG WORK WELL.
24. CHAIN LINKS FOR SHOES TO WALK IN ICE OR ON LAKE. FABULOUS! SUPERB. YAKATRAX PRO IS WHAT I USE.YAKTRAX.COM. THESE CHAINS SAVED ME FROM ANOTHER FALL WHERE $350 GLASSES BROKE AND I WAS HURT BADLY.
25. BATTERY BOOSTER CABLES. LONG ONES OF HIGH END QUALITY.
26. FIRST AID KIT. I HAVE ONE SMALL ONE THAT HAS WATERPROOF CASE WITH EVEN MATCHES INSIDE.
27. KNIT GLOVES OR GLOVES WITH HEATERS.
28. HAND WARMERS IN PLASTIC. TWO DOZEN I RECOMMEND.
29. 6 INCH LIGHTSTICKS AT LEAST A DOZEN.
30. ROAD SIGNALS OR TRIANGLES. FLARES.
31. CHAINS FOR TIRES. I HAVE A SEPARATE CASE FOR THESE. I USE OUT WEST WHERE REQUIRED. IN MICHIGAN, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, NEW YORK I USE TO GET OUT OF SITUATION OF DEEP SNOW, ICE. IN CALIFORNIA AND OTHER WESTERN STATES REQUIRED TO TRAVEL MOUNTAINS. OFTEN STATE POLICE WILL TURN YOU BACK IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THEM. I USE SAME IN MICHIGAN, PANNSYLVANIA, VERMONT, MAINE.
32. DRY FOOD INCLUDING JERKY, CRACKERS, BREAD, DRIED FRUITS. CANNED FOODS.
33. I USE SHRINKING SUCTION BAGS TO HOLD EXTRA SNOW MOBILE SUIT. IDEAL TO MOVE IN SNOW WHEN IT IS TWO FEET DEEP PLUS. ALSO KEEPS THE LOW TEMPERATURES FROM AFFECTING YOU.
34. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SUN GLASSES IN VEHICLE.
35. GPS DEVICE LIKE GARMIN IF YOU DO NOT HAVE SYSTEM IN YOUR VEHICLE. IDEAL TO GIVE LOCATION FOR RESCUE.
36. FEW ROLLS OF TOILET PAPER OR PAPER TOWELS.
37. TWO OR THREE BACK UP POWER SOURCES FOR CELL PHONES. I CHARGE THEM UP AND STORE IN PLASTIC INSULATED CASES.
38. IF VEHICLE HAS NO SPARE PURCHASE ONE. EVEN THE SMALL TIRE AND RIM WILL GIVE YOU SECURITY. I PREFER FULL SIZE SPARE TO BRING ALONG ON ADVENTURES IN UPPER PENINSULA, NEW YORK STATE, THE DAKOTAS , MONTANA, OREGON FOR SURE.
39. NON ELECTRIC CAN OPENER.
40. TWO OR THREE ANTIFREEZE, OIL, RAIN X , FOR EMERGENCY. BRING ALONG ANTIFREEZE TESTER IF POSSIBLE.
41. I ALSO CARRY STERNO, PROPANE TANK AND COOKER, WITH PAN TO WARM
COFFEE, TEA, OR FROZEN OR CANNED FOODS.
I HAVE A LARGE PLASTIC CONTAINER I HOLD MUCH OF THE GEAR IN. THEN THE CHAINS I HAVE ITS OWN PLASTIC CONTAINER. WHEN I TRAVEL TO UPPER PENINSULA OF MICHIGAN, TWIN CITIES, DULUTH, VERMONT, NEW HAMPSHIRE PLUS OTHER CITIES IN NORTH AMERICA I CARRY THE 30 POUNDS OF GEAR.
A FEW YEARS BACK WHEN AT THE WONDERFUL RESORT ON DRUMMOND ISLAND I HAD A VOLVO. BUT, SNOW AND ICE WERE SO DEEP THE CHAINS AND COME ALONG SAVED THE DAY. WITHOUT THOSE TOOLS I WOULD HAVE BEEN STUCK FOR DAYS.
ANOTHER TIME HAD TO USE COME ALONG AND ROPE AND CHAIN TO PULL RANGE ROVER FROM DEEP SNOW, ICE. TOOK ROPES AROUND TREE AND USED COME ALONG TO PULL VEHICLE BACK. WORKED EXACTLY AS NEEDED TO GET ME OUT OF DANGEROUS SITUATION.
MY NEXT CHALLENGE THIS WINTER IS YELLOWSTONE. YOU NEED TO BE PREPARED. FOR THAT AREA I PREFER SNOW TIRES FOR NORMAL ROADS AND CHAINS FOR UNPLOWED ROADS.
